Last Thursday (28 January), local MP Robert Largan completed his first shift as a volunteer at the vaccine site at Glossop Cricket Club. The High Peak MP was helping as a volunteer steward, making certain people got in and out safely.
Glossop is one of the leading areas anywhere in the country for rolling out the vaccine. The vaccine rollout is also progressing well across the High Peak, with the two other vaccine sites at Chapel-en-le-Frith and Buxton. Vaccine clinics have been successfully run in New Mills as well.
Nationally, over 9 million people have received a vaccine dose and the UK vaccination programme is one of the most advanced anywhere in the world.
The UK has now vaccinated almost 9 in 10 of all over 80s in the UK and over half of all people in their 70s.
Every eligible care home with older residents in England has now been offered vaccinations to all their residents and staff.
Robert Largan MP commented:
“It was brilliant to be able to lend a hand and to thank everyone who is working so hard to get people in High Peak vaccinated.
“Everything was so well organised and planned carefully to keep everyone safe, with 750 people successfully vaccinated. A huge thanks to everyone involved and doing such an amazing job!”
“Remember, every jab isn't just saving lives, it is a step closer to being able to ease restrictions and get back to normal. Let's all follow the rules, take care of each other and stay safe.”
