High Peak MP Robert Largan has welcomed the announcement that Derbyshire will receive £27.4 million as part of the Government’s latest funding for highways maintenance with over £10 million exclusively for pothole repair. It is the second of five instalments from the £2.5 billion Potholes Fund set up last year.

Nationally, this latest instalment will ensure that the equivalent of 10 million potholes can be filled, making thousands of local roads across the country both safer and easier for drivers and cyclists.

Since 2015, the Department for Transport has invested heavily in pothole filling, including the £296 million Pothole Action Fund from 2015/16 to 2020/21. It also increased highway maintenance investment by £420 million in 2018, benefitting all of England’s highway authorities.

The Government is committed to supporting motorists through investing £27 billion in the biggest ever roads programme under the Road Investment Strategy 2 (RIS2). This includes £10 billion specifically for road maintenance, operations, and renewals.
