High Peak MP Robert Largan has welcomed Derbyshire County Council’s decision to introduce a 20mph School Safety Zone on Swallow House Lane in Hayfield, which is the approach road to Hayfield Primary School.
Local families have been worried about speeding and traffic on Swallow House Lane, and the housing development off Swallow House Lane has seen an increase in traffic.
As a condition of planning consent, the developer made a Section 106 payment to the Council for local community benefit.
The Council’s officers drew up a proposed scheme in 2018 suggesting improved signage and speed humps along Swallow House Lane.
Residents, the school, Derbyshire Police, and Parish Council supported these proposals.
Robert Largan MP has been pushing Derbyshire County Council to implement the scheme since 2019. The Council have added the project to their programme of works.
Robert Largan MP commented:
“The introduction of traffic calming measures outside Hayfield Primary School is positive news for the village.
“Well done to everyone who has been working hard to make this happen. I will continue to keep up the pressure until its completion.
“There are also lots of other schools I’m working with to try and deliver a road safety scheme.
“There is still more work to be done, but it’s good that we’re making progress in Hayfield.”
