Local MP Robert Largan volunteered as a simulated casualty as part of a Kinder Mountain Rescue Team training exercise on Cown Edge.
Before the pandemic, Kinder Mountain Rescue Team organised a monthly exercise on a Sunday, but it has been a long time since the team did the last one. The team was out for the first full-on, face-to-face (Covid-compliant) exercise up at Cown Edge.
The scenario involved two walkers who have fallen and are stuck on the steep face of the Edge. One walker with an arm injury and one walker with an open lower-leg fracture.
This required a remote rendezvous for the team, juggling resources and a rope-assisted steep-ground extraction over rocky ground.
All of this requires a significant amount of expensive technical equipment for which, as a self-funded Charity, Kinder Mountain Rescue Team rely on the public's goodwill to buy and replace.
You can donate to the team's JustGiving page online at www.justgiving.com/KMRT.
Robert Largan MP commented:
"Thanks to Kinder Mountain Rescue Team for rescuing me. Our local mountain rescue teams are outstanding, and it was a pleasure to watch them work and play a small part in helping them out.
"Thanks to all the mountain rescue volunteers who work so hard to save people across the High Peak."
Kinder Mountain Rescue Team commented:
"It was an excellent days training with lots of rust bashed off team skills. A special thank you to local MP Robert Largan for joining us to see what we do and for taking on the role of the arm-injured casualty."
