High Peak MP Robert Largan has welcomed the decision by Morrisons to permanently remove disposable BBQs from sale in their Buxton store.
Disposable BBQs pose a serious risk of wildfires, especially in light of the recent warm and dry weather.
Robert Largan MP has worked closely with the Peak District National Park to help educate people coming into the area about the risks and has encouraged several other local shops to stop selling disposable BBQs.
This latest decision by Morrisons to remove disposable BBQs from sale in their Buxton store is very welcome news.
In response to Robert Largan MP’s representations, a spokesperson for Morrisons said:
“Given the proximity of the store to the National Park, we will be permanently removing disposable BBQs from sale from 1st September.
“I hope this helps to reassure Mr Largan’s constituents of our commitment to work with the local community and authorities to reduces the risk of wildfires in our National Parks.”
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, said:
“I am really pleased that Morrisons have made the decision to remove disposable BBQs from sale in their Buxton store.
“I care deeply about the environment. Disposable BBQs have proved to be a serious fire hazard, especially in the moorland landscape of the Peak District National Park.
“Having raised this issue in Parliament and strongly supported the Peak District National Park’s call for local retailers to stop selling disposable BBQs, I welcome this further progress to reduce the risk of wildfire and I would encourage all local retailers to follow their lead.”
