Glossop resident and Paralympian, Benjamin Watson, has won a gold medal for ParalympicsGB at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. High Peak MP Robert Largan has congratulated Benjamin on his stunning win.
Benjamin won the gold medal for cycling in the Men’s C3 Time Trial on Tuesday (31 August). He went on to win his second gold medal, this time in the Men’s Cycling C3 Road Race (2 September).
Since joining the Great Britain Cycling Team foundation programme in 2017, Benjamin had already won medals at three consecutive UCI Paracycling Road World Championships.
UK Sport has invested £8,094,453 in Benjamin’s career from 2017 to 2021. This demonstrates the importance of giving the nation’s athletes the full support they need to compete internationally.
Robert Largan MP commented:
“A huge well done to Glossop’s own Ben Watson who has won two gold medals in the Men’s C3 Time Trial and the Men’s C3 Road Race at the Paralympics.
“It is fantastic to see double gold for Glossop. I am sure that Ben’s example will be an inspiration for young people right across High Peak. Congratulations, Ben!
“I’ve written to Royal Mail to request that Ben’s local postbox in Glossop is painted gold!”
