High Peak MP Robert Largan, recently visited Barratt Homes’ Midshires Meadow development in Whaley Bridge for a guided tour with the developer’s directors.
Robert Largan MP was invited to the development on Linglongs Road to view the homes being built following its recent opening. Robert was able to learn more about the plans for Midshires Meadow from Barratt Homes Manchester’s Managing Director, Neil Goodwin.
The High Peak MP opposed the Linglongs development and worked with Whaley Bridge Matters and other residents to oppose the plans.
High Peak Borough Council approved the development, against the wishes of local
people. Now that the development has been granted planning permission and is under construction, Robert’s focus has been on working to mitigate the impact of construction.
The site visit was an opportunity to discuss mitigation measures around traffic management, flood prevention measures, as well tree protection, which is very important for many residents.
Robert has spoken to many residents and he regularly takes up their specific concerns directly with Barratt Homes, as well as Derbyshire County Council as the highways authority and High Peak Borough Council as the planning authority.

Robert Largan, MP for the High Peak said:
“Like many residents, I opposed the development and was very disappointed when High Peak Borough Council approved it.
“Since the Council granted permission and appeal options were exhausted, my focus has been on working to reduce the impact of the development, regularly taking up residents’ concerns with both the Council and the developer.
“That’s why I visited the site to meet the developer and discuss the traffic management plan and flood prevention measures, as well as take a look at the steps taken to protect trees on site, which I know is very important for many local residents.”
Neil Goodwin, Managing Director of Barratt Homes Manchester, said:
“We were delighted to show Mr Largan around our Midshires Meadow development in Whaley Bridge, as well as discussing the investments made by Barratt Homes to the local community.
“As the UK’s leading housebuilder, we are determined to play our part in the county’s economic recovery and to build better and greener than before, while establishing a new community at the development in Whaley Bridge.”
