Stewart Medical Centre, a General Practice on Hartington Road in Buxton, recently welcomed local MP Robert Largan to discuss plans for a new health centre in Buxton.
Robert is supporting Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust’s bid for a new health and community public services hub, which will be based at the former Buxton Water site.
The visit comes as the Government announced a £250 million winter access fund that will enable GP practices to improve their availability, so that patients who need care can receive it on the same day. This is in addition to £270 million invested over the previous eleven months to expand capacity and support GPs.
Robert has been campaigning for more support for GPs in Parliament, and recently launched a High Peak GP Survey to understand patients' experience across the High Peak. Robert will present the survey results to local NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups, which are responsible for healthcare services.

Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“It was good to drop in to Stewart Medical Centre in Buxton to have a chat with doctors about the plans for a new primary health centre at the old water bottling site.
“I’m supporting the local NHS bid for capital funding to deliver the project, which would be a big boost for Buxton healthcare.
“I’m pleased that the Government has announced more funding and support to help GPs catch up with the Covid-19 backlog.
“I raised this issue recently at Prime Minister’s Questions, and have been carrying out my High Peak GP Surgery Survey, so it’s good to see the Government listening.
“Let’s work together to make our local NHS even better.”
