The Canal & River Trust have formally submitted their planning application to restore Toddbrook Reservoir.
Local MP Robert Largan sees the application as an important step to restoring the reservoir.
The High Peak MP has reaffirmed his commitment to continue working with both residents and the Canal & River Trust to reduce the disruption and impact of the restoration works.
This follows a public consultation earlier this year, which found that most residents preferred the option to restore the reservoir by creating a new spillway to the northeast of the site.
Currently, water in the reservoir is being pumped from the River Goyt into the Canal to stop the Canal from going dry. The loss of the reservoir is also putting enormous pressure on the river, and increases flood risk for the entire Goyt Valley.
Toddbrook Reservoir is expected to fully re-open to the public by early 2024.
Full details of the application are on High Peak Borough Council’s website, and the Trust will be circulating a newsletter to residents in the next couple of weeks with extra information.
The whole application can be viewed online at:

Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“This is a crucial milestone in getting the Toddbrook Reservoir restored. The digital models of the Memorial Park and Reservoir Road look really promising.
“We know it’s going to be a very disruptive period during construction, especially for residents on Reservoir Road. But the reservoir must be restored.
“I’m focused on working with residents, the Council and the Canal & River Trust to minimise disruption as much as possible.”
