Local MP Robert Largan recently visited Lloyds Bank in Glossop to learn about the company’s first operational net zero carbon emissions branch in the country.
The branch, located on High Street East in Glossop, has recently been refurbished as part of Lloyds Bank’s commitment to achieve net zero carbon operations by 2030.
Robert was able to meet with staff and discuss how the branch has recently been transformed in order to become more energy efficient – with the installation of a low carbon heat pump system, smart building management system and LED lighting. Robert also learned that all electricity consumed in the branch is now sourced from 100% renewable sources.
These changes will result in a reduction in operational carbon emissions of over 90% and will mean that the branch will save enough energy to power an average UK home for two years.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“It was great to visit the trailblazing net zero emissions Lloyds branch in Glossop, which is the first of its kind in the country.
“The branch has made a number of changes to increase energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions in the future. Such changes are particularly important at a time when we are all examining our environmental impact and our reliance on fossil fuels.
“Innovative private sector solutions such as this are crucial if we are to achieve our goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050.”
Jo Harris, Lloyds Banking Group’s Ambassador for the Midlands, added:
“Transforming the way our branch works with the latest environmentally friendly technology is part of our commitment to support the UK’s transition to a more sustainable, low-carbon economy.
“We’ve identified a number of branches that we will use a test bed to accelerate our path to net zero operations across all our buildings, understand what challenges and opportunities we will encounter, and create a toolbox of solution that can be reused across the whole of the Group’s premises.
“We know people across the region care passionately about the environment, so we hope that it will encourage more businesses to consider making small changes that can have a positive impact on our region, and the planet too”.
