Local MP Robert Largan has announced that special arrangements will be made to ensure that the 2nd annual High Peak Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair is accessible to Ukrainian refugees looking for work in High Peak.
The event will take place on Friday 23rd September 2022 at the New Mills Leisure Centre from 10am until 2pm and will be open to all High Peak residents with free admission, allowing young people, jobseekers and those wishing to re-train to access the wide variety of employment opportunities available to them.
Following Russia’s appalling invasion of Ukraine in February this year, many High Peak residents opened their hearts and homes to welcome Ukrainian refugees fleeing conflict in their country. Having arrived in High Peak, many are trying to build the foundations for a new start by looking for a job in the local area.
Working with the local job centre, Robert Largan MP has made special arrangements to ensure that his High Peak Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair is accessible to our Ukrainian friends and neighbours looking for work in our area.
Local Buxton resident, Svitlana, has kindly volunteered to help Robert’s team translate information posters about the event.
Robert is also working hard to ensure that an interpreter can be present on the day of the fair, to ensure that Ukrainian refugees can access all the opportunities available to them.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine earlier this year, many High Peak residents were keen to help in any way they could, including opening up their homes to host Ukrainian refugees. Our country has a long and proud history of taking in people in need and supporting the most vulnerable during their darkest hour.
“Now, it is important that we help Ukrainians who have joined our community in High Peak to get a new start, with access to all the opportunities our area has to offer.
“That’s why I am making special arrangements to ensure that Ukrainian refugees are able to attend my 2nd High Peak Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair, including translating leaflets. Please do share this with anybody who might find it useful!”
