Derbyshire County Council have confirmed that pupils living in Dove Holes and attending St Thomas Moore RC School will be issued with a Council-funded bus pass.
After Northern Rail confirmed that their timetable would be changing permanently, leaving Dove Holes-based students with no Buxton-bound trains between 07:15 and 08:45am, the Member of Parliament wrote to Derbyshire County Council to request that they act to rectify the issue.
Catching the 07:15am train would have meant that affected students would need to wait in Buxton for ninety minutes in the morning.
Catching the 08:45 train would have meant that the students would have been at least twenty minutes late for school.
Mr Largan welcomes the announcement from Derbyshire County Council, which follows him raising concerns about students being stuck out in the cold, stranded in Buxton whilst waiting for their morning connection.
Bus passes will be sent to the school directly to avoid the postal strike, so that the school can issue them.
A letter has also been printed and posted home advising parents that the children can collect their DCC school bus pass from the school office. Students will need to hand in their rail passes upon collection.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“I’m disappointed that the new train timetable negatively impacts school children in Dove Holes. These changes risk costing Dove Holes pupils 63 hours of classroom time per year!
“Public transport is a vital part of the morning commute, especially for students who have no alternative means of getting to school. I welcome Derbyshire County Council’s constructive and engaged reaction to the concerns I have raised on behalf of parents and students.”
