Derbyshire County Council is set to launch a public consultation on whether to introduce a 20-mile-per-hour speed limit across Buxton. The Council Cabinet are due to discuss the proposal on 12 January.
The change would apply to the town centre, parts of Fairfield, Lightwood Road, Long Hill, Dale Road, Burlington Road and other residential areas.
If the Council agrees to launch a public consultation, it is expected to last for 12 weeks.
Ahead of the Council’s meeting, local MP Robert Largan has asked Buxton residents for their views on the proposal. The High Peak MP has launched a survey online where local residents can submit their views. Mr Largan intends to submit the results of his survey to Derbyshire County Council.
Mr Largan’s survey can be found at the following address: www.robertlargan.co.uk/BuxtonSpeedSurvey.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“Derbyshire County Council has put forward proposals to introduce a new 20-mile-per-hour speed limit across Buxton. This has the potential to improve road safety and the quality of the air we breathe, but it’s important that local residents have their say before any change is made.
“That’s why I’ve launched a survey to find out what local people think of the plans. If you live in Buxton or drive through it frequently, I want to hear your views.
“Please fill out my survey online at www.robertlargan.co.uk/BuxtonSpeedSurvey. It’s important that we get this right.”
