Robert Largan MP is pleased to back National Apprenticeships Week 2023, which is taking place this year between 6 – 12 February.
National Apprenticeships Week serves to highlight the value and importance of apprenticeships to the economy, with over 5.3 million apprenticeships created since 2010.
In High Peak, 9,610 apprenticeships have been created since 2010 under successive Conservative governments.
As well as driving up the number of people boosting their skills through apprenticeships, the Conservative Government’s reforms are also improving the quality of apprenticeships.
Local MP Robert Largan has welcomed the recent announcement of £2.3 billion of additional funding for 2023-24 and 2024-25 and is pleased that the colleges which deliver skills and training will get the most focused support.
Alongside reforms to apprenticeships, the Conservative Government has introduced T-Levels and established twelve Institutes of Technology. T-Levels provide students with vocational options as rigorous and robust as A-Levels, whilst Institutes of Technology will be the pinnacle of technical training.
As collaborations between universities, colleges and business they will specialise in delivering quality, higher level technical training in STEM subjects, opening the door to highly skilled careers.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“Apprenticeships are a fantastic way of getting young people into the world of work, allowing them to gain valuable experience whilst earning a wage for themselves.
“They are a really positive tool, not just for helping students into vocations but also for upskilling our workforce. I know first-hand how useful apprenticeships are. Members of my own team are former apprentices!
“I’m really pleased that so much progress has been made with bringing in places of education and schemes which will be able to provide students and young people with the excellent quality training and opportunities they deserve.”
