Wednesday 4 October marked the ending of the court hearing of the challenge by campaign group CPRE to stop the Mottram Bypass and Glossop Spur Road project.

The anti-road campaign group, with the support of Glossop Labour Party, have launched a bid to stop the landmark £228million project in the courts.

All parties have now presented evidence over the space of the two day court hearing and this will be reviewed over the next six to eight weeks.

A decision will follow after consideration of the arguments by the court.

Robert Largan MP has expressed hope that the court will dismiss the appeal, so that the bypass can be built as soon as possible.

Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:

“I am hopeful that we will get a final decision soon, so that we can get on and build the Mottram Bypass as soon as possible.

“Like me, so many residents are so disappointed and frustrated by these delays, caused by anti-road campaigners and Glossop Labour party.

“We’ve waited over 50 years for this project to get going and we’re so close to getting construction started.

“I live on the main road in Glossop. This infrastructure project is personal to me and I will keep doing everything I can to work with residents to get the Bypass built!”
